Freestyle Fitness Yoga celebrated its 10th year in 2010.
It has evolved from an integrated fitness and Yoga workout designed by Jayne Nicholls for Qualified Instructors into a Level 3 Yoga Qualification available to both fitness instructors and the general public.
Freestyle Fitness Yoga Instructors are taught how to understand Yoga postures from an anatomical and physiological perspective. This means that they can provide a unique stand-point on traditional Yoga. They understand their students potential for strength gains and their limitations for flexibility resulting in constant progression.
FFY instructors are all innovative and unique, they are taught to quietly and mindfully mentor their students by coaching and progressing each individual within a group as they want class participants to understand their bodies potential and be the best that they can possibly be.
What is FFY?
FFY is a fitness program that incorporates stretch, strength & Yoga postures.
Every element of FFY is validated from a fitness perspective. Any one taking part in a FFY class can expect to improve their strength and flexibility, seeing the benefits within 8 weeks. They will learn how to understand their bodies and begin to move more effectively and efficiently, improving posture, self awareness and confidence.
How does FFY differ from traditional Yoga?
FFY concentrates on movement, breathing, transitions from one posture to another and progression. There is no dogma, chanting or use of Sanskrit terms as postures are prescribed from a modern fitness perspective. We adopt a mindful method of teaching that reflects the Buddhist traditions of Yoga in a more contemporary and social environment. We avoid prescription of extreme postures that exceed optimal ranges of motion in favour of individual strengths and performance. During FFY moves and postures can be sequenced together to the beat of the music making transitions seamless and graceful.
Who is FFY appropriate for?
FFY is appropriate for many different target groups. Health clubs, leisure centres & the community can benefit from Fitness Yoga on the timetable as its roots in fitness make it excellent prescription for a total body programme where flexibility is often the weakest link. Like all group exercsie it can be taught in many different levels to suit all age ranges and abilities.
Why teach FFY instead of traditional Yoga?
FFY has been developed over 10 years and is now a brand within its own right. It is a contemporary approach to an ancient format. It takes on board modern fitness trends and research to fine tune postures that in some instances can be unsuitable for the UK target market. It helps bring Yoga in line with other classes by using the same language and exercise prescription. Instructors can be assured that they are not saying things that contradict their daily practice.
If having trained in FFY you feel that you would lke to go on and immerse yourself deeper into the Yoga concept we can take you to Level 3 Yoga Instructor by helping you to develop an understadning and an interest in the areas of Yoga that we have previously not covered.

How long will my FFY qualification last?
If you take care of your training and update via the FFY DVD collection and advanced workshops, your 2 day certification will last a lifetime and serve you well. If however you lapse and let your FFY progression lapse, we need you to do the course again after 3 years in order to keep on top of all new developments and changes within the fast moving fitness industry.

Jayne - what have you done to me!!!After my 30 minute drive home to Bolton I got out of the car and could barely walk.BUT.....I got straight on the computer to register as an FFY instructor. I can't stop FFYing. The dog and my other half think I've gone barmy. With volume up I have sun saluted myself in and out of the shower, practised transitions around the kitchen and balanced beautifully in front of the pork chops. I can't wait to teach it.
I feel fab! This really was an inspirational weekend Jayne - thank you so much

Many thanks for a wonderful insight to Freestyle Fitness Yoga, as a body balance instructor, who at times feels very restricted in my teaching of the system, I was relieved and enlightened to listen to your insight to this type of fitness class, as many of your poses were free from the shackles of complicated names and you repeated them and held them for much longer, I feel that my participants will enjoy and understand the moves more in this manner, you have restored my confidence as a fitness instructor especially in this area.

Freestyle Fitness Yoga, what a fab time I had, I felt more challenged and inspired by that one class than I have by any other I have studied in the last 3 years.
