Level 3 Award in Designing Pre & Post Natal Exercise Programmes
We are delighted to announce the new Active IQ Level 3 Award in Designing Pre and Post Natal Exercise Programmes. The qualification is designed to train learners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to design an individualised programme for pre and post natal clients. It is at Level 3 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and comprises of the following:
Qualification entry requirements:
- Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (as a minimum)
Or any of the following / equivalent
- Level 3 Certificate in Advanced Fitness Instructing
- Level 3 Certificate in Personal training
What you have to do
All taking part in this Award will need to complete the following:
- A practical workshop at one of the venues listed below
- Assessment of the 2 mandatory units discussed below
Qualification Outline:
Target Learners:
Instructors wishing to further their career in the health and fitness sector as a specialist instructor who can address the needs of pre and or post natal clients
Aim:
- To train learners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to design an individualised programme for pre and post natal clients
Objectives:
- To develop an understanding of the physiological and biomechanical changes that take place during pregnancy
- To apply appropriate training approaches to plan and design programmes for pre and post natal clients
Progression:
- This qualification provides progression to further specialist qualifications at Level 3 and Level 4.
Qualification Structure and Unit Content
This qualification comprises two units, namely:
- Unit 1 - Physical activity and health considerations for the pre and post natal client
- Unit 2 - Design and implement exercise programmes for the pre and post natal client
Successful achievement of all units must be achieved for the full qualification.
Assessment:
Unit 1
This unit is internally assessed using a worksheet consisting of 14 questions. In order to achieve a
pass a minimum of 38 marks must be achieved.
Unit 2
This unit is internally assessed using a theoretical case study consisting of
- Questions
- Session Plans
- Risk Assessment
Session Plans These can be done in the context of Gym and Group Exercise Learners should choose the most appropriate session plan for their context and each session should include:
- warm-up minimum 3 minutes using any cardiovascular equipment or exercises(mobility and dynamic stretches may be included in the warm up)
- cardiovascular minimum of 3 different forms of cardiovascular equipment or exercises to be included over the 3 sessions
- 8-10 resistance based exercise - these can be machine-based, free weight, cable or body weight / body conditioning exercises
- cool-down minimum 3 minutes using a different piece of cardiovascular equipment or exercises than the warm-up (stretches of identified shortened musculature may be included in the cool down)
A mark sheet is provided and learners must achieve a minimum of 43 marks to pass
